Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Ajman Tourism Development Department Sign Agreement to Promote Ecotourism

On the sidelines of the 13th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (COP13), held from October 21-29 in the UAE, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), and Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance synergies and coordination in promoting ecotourism on a local and international scale.

His Excellency Sultan Alwan Al Habsi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Regions Sector at MOCCAE, and His Excellency Saleh Al Geziry, Director General of ATDD, signed the MoU, in the presence of His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment.

Under the MoU, MOCCAE and ATDD will form a joint committee to oversee plans and mechanisms to bolster cooperation in promoting ecotourism and organic farming through holding local and international seminars and conferences focused on these topics.

The two entities also agreed to develop a documentary film about Al Zorah Natural Reserve in Ajman, a Ramsar Site of International Importance that is home to an astonishing variety of native marine and plant life and serves as a shelter to flocks of resident and migratory birds.

Speaking on the agreement, His Excellency Al Habsi said: “The MoU is in line with the Ministry’s commitment to forge partnerships that will further drive sustainable development and environment preservation throughout the country. Ajman has all the elements necessary to become a leading regional and international ecotourism destination of choice.”

For his part, His Excellency Al Geziry said: “MOCCAE and ATDD realize the significance of boosting cooperation to promote ecotourism, which is a popular component of Ajman’s tourism products. The MoU is in line with the wise leadership’s directives to bolster synergies between federal and local entities to drive development projects.”
