In Accordance with the Cabinet’s Decision, Al Zeyoudi Approves Members of UAE Council for Climate Change and Environment

H.E. Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, has issued the Ministerial Decision No (795) of 2016 on forming the UAE Council for Climate Change and Environment.

The Council will be in charge of formulating the country’s policy and strategies on climate change, environmental issues, and sustainable development, as well as developing plans towards achieving them and represent the UAE in regional and international negotiations related to the scope of work of the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment. The Council will also create partnerships with the private sector and conduct studies and lead scientific research in fields related to the Ministry’s work.

Commenting on the importance of the Council, H.E. Dr. Al Zeyoudi said: “Based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE President and the orders of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai regarding the concrete actions to be taken on the climate change issues, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has come up with this decision to form the UAE Council for Climate Change and Environment. By implementing the responsibilities of the council, the Ministry will seek to find out innovative solutions for the pressing environmental issues that we face without compromising on the economic development and protection of our cultural and civilizational heritage at a time. The Council is expected to be a role model in playing the key leadership roles in the climate change and environment issues of the region.”
