ADM tests first subsurface lighting control panel at Abu Dhabi Corniche

THE Abu Dhabi City Municipality revealed the success of the tentative operation of the first subsurface lighting control panel at Abu Dhabi Corniche. The step comes as part of its endeavours to enhance the infrastructure, improve the appearance of the city, and provide the best security & safety standards for community members.

This experiment reflects the commitment of the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport - Abu Dhabi City Municipality to align the sustainable projects strategy with Abu Dhabi 2030 Vision & Plan and provide world-class infrastructure. The experiment also signals the start of a drive set to expand a larger scale in the near future. The lighting control panel is an electric box installed underground with the aim of reducing the cluttering the outlook of the city, besides reducing the environmental pollution caused by boxes installed on the ground thanks to its simple on/off hydraulics technology. It also ensures a high level of safety and prevents electrical hazards, thus protecting the lives of people in crowded neighbourhood and public places. Its subsurface nature renders it safer, resistant to tampering by children; spares pedestrians from any harm, and ensures traffic safety as it is protected from damage resulting from being hit by vehicles.Following the successful test run of the underground lighting control panel, the Municipality plans to reduce the aboveground electrical boxes in parks, urban spaces and crowded places, which cuts operation & maintenance cost.It is worth mentioning that this successful experiment is undertaken by the Municipality in cooperation with Serta Corporation, which is supported by Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development.
