Wadi Shawka

Overview

Wadi Shawka represents a popular outdoor wilderness destination for nature lovers and sports enthusiasts.

Surrounded by the Hajar Mountains, the valley is characterised by rocky outcrops, farmland and wildlife. Similarly, a 10 km hiking trail around Wadi Shawka Dam can make for a day’s hiking, including breaks in between.

For those looking to enjoy the surrounding country, without exerting themselves too much, the area is also popular for picnics and barbecues.

Located about 100 km from Sharjah in an east south-easterly direction, accessing Wadi Sawka is via the Sharjah – Kalba Road – E102. Take exit 47 for the Dubai – Fujairah Road / Maliha – Fujairah Road – E84. Take exit 67 toward Esfai / Esfini. Turn right at Esfai and head toward Wadi Shawka Dam.
Access is available all year round.
There are a few small shops close to the entrance to the trail, however it is best to bring along food and water provisions.
Appropriate outdoors clothing and footwear. Hiking and camping equipment. A GPS unit for monitoring location in the wadis. Taking water and food is also recommended.
Hiking, mountain biking, running, camping, off road driving, experiencing nature, picnics and barbecues.
October to April, however caution has to be taken during winter rains.
There are no charges associated with visiting Wadi Shawka.
