Wadi Al Bih

Overview

Wadi Al Bih is a river valley that originates in Ras Al Khaimah and cuts east through the Hajar mountains, to Oman and the Gulf of Oman, before making its route back west to the United Arab Emirates.

This natural formation, celebrated for its canyons, and steep cliffs elevates to 1 km above sea level. As a result, it affords spectacular views of land and seascapes. Along its course one finds abandoned settlements and birdwatching sites. Accordingly, bird species that have been spotted include the Barbary falcon (Falco pelegrinoides), Lichtenstein's Sandgrouse (Pterocles lichtensteinii) and the European Robin (Erithacus rubecula).

The valley is also synonymous with ultra-distance running and the first mountain race between Ras Al Khaimah and Dibba, Oman – though nowadays, the race starts and ends in Dibba.
