ADM serves 120 warnings against casual satellite dishes

THE Abu Dhabi City Municipality has carried out an inspection campaign to curtail the phenomenon of satellite dishes on rooftops and balconies of buildings. The move reflects the Municipality’s keenness to protect the urban appearance of the city, preserve the environment and ensure safety standards for community members. The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport - Abu Dhabi City Municipality urged all community members to protect the urban outlook of Abu Dhabi and remove all distorting elements including satellite dishes. The civic body cautioned that such a phenomenon still lingers in a way that blemishes the civilised appearance and has become an eyesore, which prompted the need to remove all satellite dishes from rooftops and balconies.

The phenomenon undermines the safety of people and constitutes a palpable breach of the permitted number of four central satellite dishes on a rooftop as maximum, which suffices the need of all building dwellers.During the campaign, 120 warnings were served against violators for breaking the law governing the installation of satellite dishes. Random installation of dishes results in a series of negatives tarnishing the city's image due to the massive numbers of dishes placed haphazardly on rooftops. In the meantime, the Municipality, in coordination with strategic partners, is seeking to improve the overall appearance of the city; which is part of the top priorities of the Abu Dhabi Government provided for in the Strategic Plan 2030. It is also one of the key measures in the hands of the Municipality to improve the image of building facades in Abu Dhabi. Accordingly, poorly installed & badly maintained dishes, as well as cables & connections extended across the walls in a disorderly manner is a practice that has to be eliminated, and concerted efforts have to be made to realise this objective.Among the negatives resulting from this phenomenon is that it hampers the carrying out periodic maintenance and accessing rooftops to deliver relief equipment in cases of emergency as it will be difficult to find a place for rescue equipment due to the massive numbers of dishes & cables.Based on these facts, the Municipality calls upon all community segments to adhere to the provisions of the Decree No. (2) / 2012 as regards preserving the overall appearance of the city, general health and public tranquillity in Abu Dhabi emirate, as well as the Executive Regulation regarding satellite dishes. The following malpractices are considered as offences:
1. Installing more than four satellite dishes on the rooftop of a building. 2. Installing satellite dishes on balconies in all types of buildings.
3. Installing satellite dishes on rooftop walls and garden walls. 4. Hanging connecting connection cables on building façade.
5. Non-compliance with the requirements of satellite dishes installation. The Municipality also calls upon companies operating in the installation and maintenance of satellite dishes to observe the world's best practices and adhere to the public safety standards. The civic body stresses that maintaining health and safety of residents of Abu Dhabi city is a strategic objective that it seeks to realise, and therefore the Municipality vows to remove all risks threatening health & safety of residents and passersby.
